Lesson #3– Beware: There are Side Effects to Weight Loss!

As we celebrate the 6th anniversary of our Lincoln center, we are most thankful for each and every client that contributed to the cumulative loss of over 140,000 pounds!  Losing weight not only helps clients ‘feel better in their own skin’, but also offers them many positive side effects, such as less joint pain and better mobility.

One of the most common things we hear from clients is how much better their joints feel after losing weight, particularly their knees.  Osteoarthritis, a form of degenerative joint pain caused by wear and tear on your joints, isn’t always caused by excess weight, but it definitely can play a role.  Extra weight compresses the cartilage that protects the ends of your bones, in the joints, and wears down over time.  Added stress on those weight bearing joints, along with the fat tissue, produces proteins that may cause harmful inflammation in and around the joints.

Our client, Cindy, suffers from osteoarthritis and has for quite some time.  She can’t take anti-inflammatory medications, so once she started program, she began losing weight and added a fish oil supplement into her program, as well.  Little did she know that would make a world of a difference!   Cindy states losing weight and supplementing with fish oil is “the best thing ever for osteoarthritis” and would recommend it to everyone.  Her pain has gone down considerably, and we (and her too, of course J) are so happy that she can finally gain a little relief!  Whether it be osteoarthritis, other medical issues, or your desire for better mobility and quality of life, losing weight is a great, and quite often necessary, way to help you feel better on the inside and out!
